Welcome! This financial blog is based on both the metaphor and the odd geography/nomenclature that is Clear Creek. What do we mean by this? Let’s start with the geography of names first……….

Where is Clear Creek?

Clear Creek is the name for dozens of streams, tributaries, and tiny towns across the U.S………..…from Alaska to Washington to Nevada to Utah to Colorado to Indiana to Ohio to Pennsylvania to Georgia. But wait, there’s more! There are entire clusters of Clear Creeks in California, Missouri, and Texas. It’s all Clear Creek.

But it also serves as a reminder to us that—despite all the local and regional differences in terms of cost of living, career opportunities, tax and accounting rules, and personal investment opportunities—our financial worries and aspirations are fairly universal no matter which Clear Creek you live nearby.

What is a Clear Creek?

We also love the metaphor that is Clear Creek. Even when you get a little head of steam that comes with shallower waters, you still want to be able to see the river and the rocks in front of you. You want a clear creek, that is. We’re not going to pretend that every single obstacles or setback can be foreseen. Sure, hindsight is always 20/20, but being able to see what’s ahead of you is the key to putting your oar in the water and making a positive difference as you travel down the stream that is your financial life.

Because there’s going to be a lot you can’t control along the way. Our financial situation is always some combination of chance and choice, fate and free will. Not to mention risk and reward. You want to put yourself in the best position possible, but there’s almost always some luck involved with our financial decisions. There’s also the fact that, as part of your life, there’s no such thing as a true status quo in your financial life. Pretty much everybody is a consumer/spender and a producer/saver. And it’s when you have a clear picture, that your financial flow can contribute to your quality of life, rather than a barrier or a continual source of anxiety.

No doubt, it’s not a uniform creek or journey. Sometimes, there is calm but consistent water flow. Sometimes, there is a rush of rapids that can carry you great distances in a short amount of time, but may only be worth the trouble if you can keep your boat upright and away from any lurking rocks in the creek.
